Accumulation is a mechanic in Avowed that represents the continued and successive attacks made against enemies, which eventually trigger status effects on enemies after a threshold is met.

Overview[]

Attacks of a particular type (Physical, Fire, Frost, Poison, Shock) can accumulate on enemies, triggering specific status effects upon reaching a threshold. Wands in particular will often deal Accumulation of the element type they're associated with.

For example, an enemy that accumulates enough Burn damage will recieve an "Ignited" status, and an enemy that takes enough physical damage will recieve a "Bleeding" status for an amount of time.

There are a few types of Accumulation:

Category Type Cause Effect
Elemental Accumulation Fire Accumulation Burn Burn Damage Ignited: The target frequently takes small amounts of Fire damage over a duration.
Frost Accumulation Freeze Freeze Damage Frozen: The target is frozen solid (they cannot move or take actions) for a duration. When the target takes damage, the duration is reduced.
Shock Accumulation Shock Shock Damage Shocked: The target is immobilized (they cannot move but may take actions), and sends out bursts of Shock damage in an AoE (10 Shock Damage per 2.0 sec).
Poison and Bleed Accumulation Poison Accumulation Corrode Poison Damage Poisoned: The target takes large amounts of Poison damage at less frequent intervals over a duration.

The rate at which a type accumulates is a result of the attack made, the bonuses that the attacker has to accumulation, and the defender and their resistances.

Note that while accumulation is caused as a result of recieving damage of a particular type, it is not exclusive to being damaged, and can be applied on its own. For example, abilities like Tanglefoot will accumulate Poison on a character without damaging them.

The current accumulation of a particular type is shown as a small colored circle with an icon. For enemies this appears underneath their health and stun bar, for the player this appears underneath the Stamina meter. As a character sustains more attacks of that type, the circle fills up from the bottom. Once it's full, a status effect is applied and the outer ring of the circle is filled. While the effect is active, the ring around the outside of the circle is drained, indicating the amount of time the effect has remaining.

Resistance[]

Main article: Resistance (Avowed)

Resistance is used to combat Accumulation. A character's resistance is a direct reduction of the amount of Accumulation that occurs on them, thereby increasing the threshold at which they become affected by damage of a particular type. Negative resistance causes the character to take more Accumulation.

Buffs[]

These are buffs to all Accumulation dealt by the player. Debuffs which increase the amount of Accumulation taken are listed on Resistance.
