Ailef is a runaway Readceran slave in The White March - Part I.

He can be found in a room in the back of The Gréf's Rest in Stalwart Village.

Background

Items in italics are quoted directly from the game.

The orlan turns and glances past you with a quick, nervous motion. His ears, shredded and scalloped at the edges, are pressed against his skull.

Ailef had a gambling problem in his youth in Readceras, and was forced to sell himself into indentured servitude, a form of slavery. After seven years he escaped, but his master's son (a little boy) saw him sneaking out, and Ailef killed him to facilitate his escape.

Now that slave hunters are pursuing him in order to return him to his master and re-enslave him, he fled towards the Dyrwood where slavery is officially illegal. However, he miscalculated and wound up trapped in Stalwart, with Defala, one of the best slavers in Readceras, hot on his tail.
