Pillars of Eternity Wiki

In response to patch v1.3.7.0.1377 to Pillars of Eternity (June 6, 2024), the random loot tables shown on the wiki have been updated. These changes may take time to propegate.

As a result, random loot data is no longer accurate to old versions of the game, including all console ports. We'll be working to provide a mechanism to switch between pre-patch and post-patch loot for console players.

In Avowed, there are a total of four companions who can join your party: Giatta, Kai, Marius, and Yatzli. Each companion has their own combat specialities, unique personalities, and story arcs to explore.[1] Companions are core to the game and are deeply intertwined with the main story and the party.[2]

Overview[ | ]

Party[ | ]

Only two of the four companions may accompany you at any given time.[1] Some companions can be recruited earlier or later, but they'll all join your party by certain known points in the game. When not in the party, companions can be found at a "party camp", where they can be interacted with or asked to rejoin the party. There are "a few cases" where you must include a particular companion in your party because their knowledge or expertise is relevant to the situation, otherwise it's up to you.[3]

Combat[ | ]

You can issue basic orders to companions both in and out of combat. For example, you can ask them to interact with the environment, move to a particular spot, perform a basic task, or cast a context-aware ability. Generally however, companions can fight on their own and assist the party without intervention.[3]

Like the player character, companions also gain experience, level up, and you can choose to learn new abilities or improve existing abilities. Each companion has their own unique ability tree which is focused around the combat archetype of that companion, but is not as extensive as the player character's trees.

Interactions[ | ]

The player has a number of quest-based interactions with companions, each has their own personal story arc. Your interactions and dialogue with companions can influence them down a particular course and shape the outcome of their story. Companions don't have a strict approval system, and you won't have to "maintain" your companions and their relationship with you to keep them in the party.[3] By extension, there are no romance options for companions, as there was in both Pillars games.[4]
