One universal constant is a symbol of that bond, be it a knot tied around the lovers' wrists, matching rings, or other more exotic practices. Not all such marriages are happy affairs, however, but rather matters of politics and diplomacy. This particular ring has been so suffused with its original owner's spite and bitterness that it now feeds off of the pain its wearer brings to others.
