Crägholdt is a location in The White March - Part I.

Background[ | ]

The vast subterranean domain of the legendary archmage Concelhaut contains the labs of his four apprentices and the archmage's own quarters. Forgotten tomes of lore line the numerous bookcases across Concelhaut's domain, filled with glyphs, blank pages, and the occasional usable piece of information.

Points of interest[ | ]

For information specific to the quest, see Siege of Crägholdt
  • Assuming you worked your way to the top of the bluffs, you'll you start in the northeastern corner of the zone. Immediately after you enter, a thrall assassin invites you to visit Tanoss, one of the apprentices of the archmage.
  • A large bookcase spans the height of the chamber, and contains a random assortment of loot (see the bookshelf interaction below for more details).
  • Most of this area consists of a series of labs and studies belonging to Concelhaut's four apprentices: Tanoss, Pelden, Sabel, and Uriaki.
    • Uariki's lab is the one closest to the staircase. She studies animated weapons and associated enchantments and already has a number of conjured spears, pollaxes, and wands at her disposal. Some notes can be found on the table, while a hidden compartment (Mechanics 8) in the center of the room contains a Ebony Spider Figurine and 3x Durgan Iron Ingots. She drops Uariki's Note. If you sided with her she will remain peaceful after killing Concelhaut.
    • Pelden works on guls and his ghastly laboratory is testament to that. However, he is one of the easiest apprentices to kill, as you can surround him before talking and take him out in the first seconds of the fight. The table contains Pelden's Research Notes, consisting of little more than a series of condescending messages to his cohorts. He drops Pelden's Note.
    • Sabel's lab and her vat of molten metal offer no special interactions. She focuses on necromancy and summoning undead, and isn't very conversational - hissing at you to leave as soon as you enter. A closed door in her quarters leads to a cell with a couple of corpses, Sabel's future test subjects (you can open the door with Mechanics 2 for a fun surprise). The fight with Sabel may be difficult due to the sheer amount of supporting mages with bounding bolts, which can wreak havoc if your party fails Reflex checks (and it likes to do so). Grab Sabel's Research Notes from her desk for some lore. When killed she drops Sabel's Note.
    • Tanoss' lab is at the far end of the hall. He enslaves sentient beings as thralls through his spells of the mind, and has them do his bidding as servants and guards. Another Ebony Spider Figurine can be found on one of the bookshelves. Tanoss drops Tanoss' Note. Note if you come back to Tanoss after killing Concelhaut, he will attack you.
  • A small treasure chamber can be found at the end of the hall, and is locked (Difficulty 8). Opening it will trigger a Chain Lightning Trap that can't be defused, but you can avoid being hit if you open the door carefully from the right side. Also you should take care not to be seen by the flying skulls (Void Seers) when you enter, or they will turn hostile. Inside are two large crates, the right one contains The Last Tower, a unique large shield, and an Iridescent Scarab Figurine - see the loot section below for more
  • Heading further southwest out of the labs leads to the archmage Concelhaut's domain. A lever on a column in the corridor opens the wall to the cave area, a convenient shortcut to the right edge of the bluffs. Keep in mind though that it cannot be opened from the cave side. There are some not-so-easy enemies here.
  • The door to Concelhaut's room is locked, to open it, you need four notes that give hints how to answer a riddle (see Siege of Crägholdt for more info).

Bookshelf interaction[ | ]

At the staircase and inside Concelhaut's room, there are three bookshelves that yield random loot, some based on stats. The first bookshelf is next to the entrance staircase, and the second and third are on the right and left hand side of Concelhaut's chambers respectively.

  • "Failing" to search any bookshelf will advance time by 4 hours and add fatigue.
  • Successfully searching a bookshelf or failing to search it twice will cause it to no longer be searchable.
  • Note that the stats checked are always against the player character (as is common in scripted interactions).

Upon searching, you will get one of the following at random (non-repeating). Some of these checks have conditions and are not considered as part of the random "roll" if you don't meet them.

Description Item Condition
All bookshelves
Near the back of one shelf you find a tome covered in strange symbols. It doesn't look like much at first, but you eventually recognize the symbols as incantations and the book and a grimoire. You search through several unlabeled jars of herbs and dried fungi. You discover one filled with carow golan. Carow Golan x10 10 Survival, and haven't already found the Spellward Amulet or Troll Skin from one of the other shelves.
Second bookshelf (right hand side of Concelhaut's Chamber)

You find a bag in a pile at the bottom of the shelf. It rips and spills gems into your hand as you pick it up. Bloodstone x20
A book is stuck to the shelf at an odd angle, and you notice that it's pinned in place by a stiletto. You take the weapon and leave the ruined book. Exceptional Stiletto
A chain glitters from a middle shelf. You pull it and find an amulet in your hand. Spellward Amulet
Third bookshelf (left hand side of Concelhaut's Chamber)
You find a pile of scrolls. Most are waterlogged and ruined, but one is still usable. Scroll of Minoletta's Concussive Missiles
You find a gilded box. It breaks apart as you open it and leaves you with a handful of pearls. Pearl x6
