The blood pool in the temple of Skaen gave you this reward in exchange for sacrificing one of your companions.
Sacrificing a companion grants you both an extra point in an attribute and a bonus specific to the companion sacrificed, but the companion will be removed from the game and all quests specific to them failed.
The bonus you receive depends on which companion you choose to sacrifice. It will be listed as Effigy's Resentment in your character screen.
- Requirements and limitations
- Your main character needs to have at least 1 Cruel Disposition. Using the pool without a Cruel disposition will cause you to lose access to it.
- You can only sacrifice a companion that is currently in your party.
- You can only sacrifice one companion.
Once you have passed the first dialog option screen with the souls in the pool you cannot exit and re-enter it to change your party composition.
After dialog, the pool will stay silent. However, you do not have to do this the first time you come across the black pool, and can come back to it any time - even in act 3. To save it for later, choose "Retreat from the blood pool" - a safe option which can be repeated.
Note that this talent (as well as the death of the companion, however this only matters for Pallegina, Eder and Aloth.) is carried over to Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. The talent will be re-granted to you upon completing A Distant Light. See Status effects (Deadfire) for more.
