Endless Paths of Od Nua Level 14 is an area in Pillars of Eternity, and the fourteenth floor of the Endless Paths of Od Nua.

Background[ | ]

The staging area for the construction of Maros Nua's statue, the area became an impromptu tomb for the fallen king, as Od Nua cast a spell that encased his body in adra forever. This last spiteful gesture prevented the rebels from parading his corpse around as a war trophy... But also left him in a permanent state of undeath.

Points of interest[ | ]

  • The Master Staircase is just north of where you enter from Level 13.
  • The stairs to Level 15 are at the north-east corner of this area.
  • As you approach the center of the area, the Spirit of Od Nua appears.
    • If you convince him to let go, you can avoid a battle. This is possible without high stats. Intellect 15 and Resolve 20 offer additional dialog options, but no different result.
    • The fight can also be avoided with sufficiently high Benevolent reputation with these choices:
      • Perhaps your son's spirit still remains here somewhere [Benevolent]
      • Perhaps its time to let go
      • You don't have to forget. Only to forgive yourself. [Benevolent]
      • You lose yourself each time you try to leave. Don't you see?
      • It's not a loss. Only a path to something new. [Benevolent]
    • If you fight him, you will also have to fight the enemies that he calls.
    • Whether you fight him or not, you get the Shroud of Mourning.
  • This will advance the quest The Master Below, and grants quite a bit of experience.

Behind the scenes[ | ]

This is the final resting place of Od Nua, and as such it was internally referred to as the "tomb level", though in the fiction of the game it would've been a staging area for the construction going on below.

Originally Od Nua's corpse was literally a skeleton sort of draped over a central crystal, like the engwithan mob had spitted him on one of the pointy ends. We wanted to jazz that up a little once we had time to revisit these renders, and it was changed to the ominous silhouette encased in adra. The idea was that in a final defiant gesture, Od Nua took his own life through a spell that simultaneously thwarted any efforts to parade his corpse around in triumph or anything like that.
