Heodan is a merchant and possible temporary companion in Pillars of Eternity.
He's a member of the same caravan the protagonist is traveling with, and will be met during their rest at the Encampment.
Background[ | ]
A trader from the Aedyr Empire, Heodan left home to expand his family's mercantile enterprise, which had been taken over by his brothers. He decided for the Dyrwood, as being a former colony of his homeland, and chose the caravan of Odema to start with his efforts. Though he is the only one of his family who had to leave to build an existence, he doesn't see himself in a disadvantage, and in his eyes all the siblings are working together for business's sake.
Challenged by life on the road in a larger way than he expected, and constantly remembered by the "prickly locals" of the Dyrwood's independency from the Aedyr, the simply but neatly clothed rogue's trying to make the most of things by selling basic traveling supplies to the caravanners.

- Mentioned by Odema as the one who might be able to equip someone before they head out, Heodan will likely be the first person in the game, the protagonist has an extensive dialogue with – after the introduction from Odema. This talk will also be the first opportunity to make steps into characterization, in building a disposition. Depending on dialogue choices, a minor shift is possible for clever, cruel or passionate and for diplomatic or rational.

- Due to events during a Moment's Respite, his services become unavailable when a certain waterskin gets examined. These events may or may not lead to Heodan's death. In the latter case, he will become a temporary companion for the protagonist's escape through the Ruins of Cilant Lîs, but no further. See the respective quest articles for detailed information.
Store[ | ]
His store, which is labeled "Heodan's Supplies", sells a variety of basic items from the back of his wagon prior to your return to the camp during A Moment's Respite. After those events, however, his services as a merchant will no longer be available.
Heodan's Supplies is one of the only stores in the game with non-standard rates by default (though most stores can still have their rates discounted). Instead of the default buy rate of 20% of the item's base value, it is instead 75%, a 375% increase in the default price. Despite this, the player won't have much to sell to Heodan anyway, given the store is only available at this early stage of the game.
