Gwyn, having fled her wedding, planned to sail as far away from her old life as possible. With not a coin to her name she was forced to trade the few items of value she had. With her wedding band she secured passage to Aedyr. At the urging of the kind boatswain she traded her necklace and earrings for a private cabin. The cook accepted her handkerchief in exchange for a few extra rations.
Every item Gwyn traded felt like a weight falling from her shoulders - a weight she gave up gladly. When the ship made port, Gwyn gifted this lace band to the first person she met on the docks, wishing him safe travels. The orlan mariner who received it was delighted, if perplexed. He wore it around his waist for many safe, successful voyages, never forgetting the hopeful face of the young woman who gave it to him.
