Fleet Master Okaya stares with unwavering intensity at the small sea of papers strewn across her desk. She holds a pencil lightly in one hand and absently taps the tip of it against her lips.
After a moment, a low hum escapes her throat. The sound ends with a harsh scoff, then she flicks her eyes to meet yours.
Okaya is the youngest Rauataian in history to hold the title, a valedictorian of the naval academy in Takowa, and a brilliant engineer altogether, trying to crack the mystery of Ondra's Mortar and the reason why everything on Sayuka grows so large.
Okaya was drawn to academic work by a lifelong interest in mechanics and engineering, and nudged towards attending the Academy and joining the Navy by Karū, for whom she also has a weak spot. Despite the importance of her posting, she still misses the wind-swept rough country - but rationally knows this is where the work is done and where she's needed.
