Governor Giasces Clario is a character in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

Background[ | ]

Items in italics are quoted directly from the game.

The man at the center of attention appears to be fielding inquiries from both the gaggle of townsfolk gathered around the platform and a rather severe-looking aumaua woman standing just beside him.

In these circumstances, the Watcher encounters the head of the Vailian presence in Port Maje. Governor Clario is a Vailian man through and through. He helps the people of his colony because it increases his standing in the Company and helps ensure the luminous adra processing continues apace. However, the recent upheaval caused by Eothas' passing has caused complications in his his plans and potentially derailed the entire refining operation - something he cannot really afford.

Clario isn't happy about the Children of the Dawnstars making camp in his town - especially since there's a risk they might decide to look for their lost god in his adra mine, complicating matters even further.

Companion reactivity[ | ]

When first encountering Clario in the town square, among the Vailian commoners:

  • Commoner: "It's one of the pirates!"
At this alarmed cry, the whole of the crowd turns to regard you. A startled, expectant hush falls upon the gathered throng.
  • Watcher: "And if I am?" (Shady)
  • Edér: "Hey, you mind if I go get a drink, meet up with you later? Got bad luck with mobs."

Upon first visiting Clario in his estate:

  • Governor Clario: "Ah, yes, there you are. As governor, and under the auspices of the Vailian Trading Company, please allow me to officially welcome you to Port Maje."
He spreads his hands in a subdued flourish.
  • Xoti: "I'd like to say the pleasure's all mine. But I try not to lie.
"Don't worry, I'm only here on account of him/her." She bobs her head in your direction.
    (Impassioned, Dutiful)

After Clario is explaining the VTC's endeavours in luminous adra mining:

  • Watcher: "Wait. You mean you're trading in souls?"
  • Governor Clario: "That's a... colorful way of putting it. Energy, really, is more apt. It's not quite a matter of digging up the spirit of your old grandmother."
Clario lets out a short, breathy laugh, shaking his head slightly.
  • Xoti: "Spin it however you like - the gods are going to grind your soul to bits for this sin." (Piety, Impassioned)
  • Gorvernor Clario: "Of course. I see you've been as quick to involve yourself as ever."
Clario's tone is polite, but there is a strained edge to his wide smile as he turns from Xoti to address you.

When asking the governor what might have happened at the dig site:

  • Watcher: "Do you have any idea what might have happened?"
  • Xoti: "I told you what happened, but you wouldn't listen to me! We could've prepared for this level of destruction.
"But what do I know - I'm just a priestess with prophetic dreams."
    (Piety, Impassioned)
  • Governor Clario: Clario's jaw tenses, but he otherwise ignores Xoti's tirade.

After agreeing to help Clario with the dig site:

  • Governor Clario: "Gellarde. Then we are agreed. I will assign men to keep watch over your ship.
"You will find the digsite on the eastern side of the island. I'll mark it on your map, here."
  • Xoti: "You'll do it for the Watcher, but not for me? I see how it is."
With a discontented sound, she crosses her arms over her chest.
  • Governor Clario: "Yes, why wouldn't I want a pack of Dawnstars crawling over my adra mine in search of their lost deity?"
Clario darts a quick, sour look in Xoti's direction.
