Maegfolc are large humanoid beings in Eora. Unlike natural creatures or kith-created beings, they are created by the gods themselves, typically to fulfill a purpose. Some maegfolc are solely purpose-driven and act only in direct command of their god, while others act autonomously and with some form of sentience.
Background[ | ]
Maegfolc are not a type of creature, as much of a different category of being. They have the distinction of being created by the gods themselves, rather than being that of natural or kith-creation. Maegfolc are typically built to serve their gods purpose, and do not age or grow old, and have no need to eat, drink, breathe, sleep, or perform other bodily functions. While they can acquire knowledge, maegfolc are fundamentally static beings and do not grow or wane in power without the use of external magic.[1][2]
They are tethered to the power of their god by a metaphysical gleaming tether linking their souls to an adra pillar. Maegfolc feel discomfort and anxiety when they are distant from the pillar (around 50 miles or more), though they are not physically constrained to it and are free to travel any distance from it if they choose to. If the adra pillar is destroyed however, the link is severed and the being will die in a matter of hours.[1][2]
They are among the largest creatures in Eora. They typically live in remote, rugged areas, either alone or in small groups, and as such are rarely seen by adventurers. While there are many different kinds of maegfolc, almost all are known to be aggressive and reclusive.[3]
The remains of maegfolc have been found on most of the known continents of Eora. Some maegfolc are rumored to have built cities in the remote continent of The Living Lands, with towers that reached far into the clouds.[4]
Types of maegfolc[ | ]
- The Eyeless are a type of maegfolc created by Abydon, the god of crafting and the forge. They can be encountered during The White March - Part II.
