Meadow folk (or Thyrtan) are a subrace of humans in Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

Origin and prevalence[ | ]

Thyrtan (THEER-tan "fair," Aedyran), commonly known as meadow folk, originally come from the far North and migrated south over thousands of years.[1] They have traditionally lived at the edge of Sceltrfolc lands, working the open plains. They are the most common human sub-race in Aedyr, Dyrwood, and Readceras. They can also be found in small numbers in the Vailian Republics.[2]

Appearance and culture[ | ]

Meadow folk are comparable to the real-world "white" Caucasians of European descent. They have fair to light tan skin and a variety of hair and eye colors.

Aedyran Meadow folk are culturally indistinguishable from Aedyran Wood elfs (Sceltrfolc).

From the Pillars of Eternity Guidebook: Volume One:

  • Features: Thinner, more pointed noses. Thin lips. Rectangular or oval face shapes. Round, almond, or prominent eyes. Deep-set eyes and moderately strong brows.
  • Skin: Fair to light tan.
  • Hair: Blond, red, brown, or black. Texture is straight, wavy, or curly.
  • Eyes: Blue, green, hazel, gray, violet, or brown.

In-game description[ | ]

The most common humans in the Dyrwood, the meadow folk (or Thyrtan) have lived in that area for almost 2,000 years. Meadow folk traditionally live at the edges of elven forests working the open plains - hence their name. Most humans in the Dyrwood are Thyrtan.

The meadow folk (or Thyrtan) came from an ancient civilization in the northern hemisphere and gradually migrated south into the equatorial jungles of Aedyr over several millennia. They are commonly found in Aedyr as well as Aedyr's former colonial territories, Readceras and the Dyrwood.

Gameplay[ | ]

Meadow humans are one of the playable races. Unlike other subraces, they do not have a racial ability unique only to them, and instead share the same bonus as the other folk sub-races.
