Pillars of Eternity: Pen-and-Paper RPG (also Pillars of Eternity: Tabletop RPG, abbreviated as Pillars TTRPG) is a tabletop role-playing game set in the Pillars of Eternity universe and the world of Eora. It was officially announced by Obsidian Entertainment on February 9, 2017, as backer reward for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, [1] and has since been in development by game designer Josh Sawyer and other developers from the Pillars of Eternity team. It uses in-world settings, concepts, and themes from the games.

Versions[]

Starter Guide[]

A Starter Guide (dated May 18, 2018) of 30 pages contains a brief ruleset that was developed from the ground up.[1]

It is freely available for all backers who ordered the premium digital edition of Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire or above, and could be ordered by others as additional add-on for $7.[1] Current owners of the Deluxe or Obsidian editions of the game also receive the starter guide, where it can be found in the game install directory.

The starter guide is directly superseded by the Player's Guide.

Player's Guide (alpha)[]

An alpha of a Player's Guide was released on May 8th, 2019, and represented a massive iteration on the starter guide into a foundational rulebook for the tabletop RPG. The scope of the project increased dramatically, incorporating feedback from the community as well as from internal playtesters.[2] In addition, the game is more prominently referred to as Tabletop RPG as opposed to Pen-and-Paper RPG.

A PDF of the current alpha is freely available on Obsidian's official website for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, at the following link:

Josh Sawyer regularly posts behind-the-scenes previews of changes and additions to the ruleset on his Twitter: (Bestiary, Cultures and backgrounds, Paladins, Spells, Grenades, Game Settings, Cunning Powers, Zeal, Afflictions/Inspirations)
