In Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, food and drink are consumed while resting in the wilderness to provide bonuses, remove injuries, and refresh per-rest resources. The bonuses granted from food and drink last until the following rest. Unlike Pillars of Eternity, consuming food and drink can only be done while resting at a camp, and not during general gameplay.

Additionally, food Food (ship supply) and water Water (ship supply) are essential ship resources required by The Defiant's crew. Food from the stash must be added to the stores on the ship to keep your crew nourished and operating at full capacity. Most types of food and drink also influence crew morale.

Alcoholic drinks (all drinks with the exception of Khapa Tea, Milk, Murkbrew, Tani Cream, and Water) incur a -1 Dexterity debuff and result in a hangover effect (-3 All Defenses, -1 All Skills, -10% Max Health), after the drink's resting bonus expires, which occurs on the subsequent rest. The hangover effect can be removed either by resting with any food or drink, including alcohol, or by resting at an inn.

Players can craft certain food and drink items, which generally yield more substantial resting bonuses.

Food is required to rest in most wilderness and dungeon areas. Many inns, taverns, and merchants, will sell Food, but basic edible ingredients can occasionally be found in containers or on enemies. While resting a character must consume Food to partake in the rest, doing so will clear any Injuries and refresh Per Rest resources.

While edible ingredients are a source of commonly available food, prepared meals can be crafted or purchased and will provide much greater bonuses to a character after resting, (though they may be expensive).
