Random loot is loot that the game selects from a set of possible items for a given container.
Types of loot
There are three types of lootable items in terms of how they spawn:
- Random items can appear almost anywhere (mostly non-magical, common items e.g. coins).
- Fixed items are guaranteed to appear in a specific container (unique and quest items mostly).
- Random loot items are also tied to a specific container, but aren't guaranteed to appear. Instead, a set of possible items is associated with the container, and only one of them will appear. Also to remark is they appear mainly in following groups. Random Drugs, Random Books, Random Gems, Random Ingredient, Random Potions or Scrolls, Random Weapons, Random Armor, Random Armor and Helmet.
Random item tables
- Legend
- This table lists each random loot item together with locations of all random loot containers in which it can spawn.
- Random only? shows whether the item is random-loot-only, or can be also found in fixed locations in game.
- Number of Instances shows how many individual pieces of the item can be acquired in fixed locations throughout the base game, the first expansion, the second expansion, and the entire game respectively, and then the number of random loot locations.
- Random loot locations are sorted (approximately) by the order in which they can be visited in normal gameplay.
- How to use the table
- Search for the items you would like to obtain and look at the random loot locations where they can appear. Then look at Random loot tables section of this page below the following table to find out on which day will these items spawn in the container.
- Note, also, the rarity of the individual items. Certain random loot items are very scarce, and some of them even do not appear on a fixed location anywhere in the game, thus it is possible to miss these items altogether. The table will allow you to avoid such situation by showing you how many exemplars of each item are there to be found throughout the game.
- Silver and Golden stars are (subjectively) picked notable items that stand out of the others and are worthy of being acquired, if possible.

Random loot tables
Note: The following tables are based on a list by theBalthazar: all PoE "random" item & day checklist.
How it works
Which item appears in a random loot container is not truly random, but depends on
- the date – the number of the day in the current month of the in-game calendar (i.e. not real or gameplay time),
- the character class, stats, level and progress, mainly goal to balance the game more fairly out.
- and the type of container, for example the armor rack has armor.
It is computed on the first opening of the container (i.e. not on first load of the map). [CONFIRMED]
The tables below contain a column "Index", rather than "Day/Date"; as the Watcher's name is one of two variables for each spawn, the tables can not contain a fixed date, but rather the order in which items will appear.[1][2][3]
;Example
For Watcher "A" index 1 might be the equivalent of day 1, while Watcher "C" on day 1 perhaps gets index 6. If now both watchers rest 3 times (3 × 8 h = 24 h = 1 day), Watcher "A" will find index 2 (index 1 + 1 day), and Watcher "C" index 7 (index 6 + 1 day).
