Range (also called Attack Range, Weapon Range, Maximum Range and Reach) is the distance between a character and their target at which they can effectively inflict damage.

Weapon range[]

When wielding melee weapons, attackers must be physically close to their targets to deal damage. Melee weapon ranges vary by up to a meter in distance.

Some weapons have a short reach, and require the wielder to stand close to their target, which puts them at risk of being attacked. However, this proximity can lead to faster attack speeds (lower interval between hits), allowing for rapid combos and overwhelming opponents.

Other weapons have longer reach, which allow the wielder to put distance between themselves and the enemy while attacking, reducing the risk of being hit and allowing them to "sweep" their attacks across multiple targets simultenously. This typically comes at the cost of a lower attack speed.

Ranged weapons let the wielder damage targets from a distance, using weapons like arquebuses, bows, pistols, and wands. All ranged weapons deal their regular damage when attacking enemies within their effective range. Beyond this, the damage falls off dramatically, and at a point attacks will not hit at all.

Perception increases the maximum effective range of ranged weapons.

Ability range[]

Many abilities have specific ranged requirements. Some abilities can only be cast on targets within a certain distance, or may only travel a certain distance, while others have Area of Effect (AoE) capabilities which affect multiple targets within a designated area.
