Pillars of Eternity Wiki

In response to patch v1.3.7.0.1377 to Pillars of Eternity (June 6, 2024), the random loot tables shown on the wiki have been updated. These changes may take time to propegate.

As a result, random loot data is no longer accurate to old versions of the game, including all console ports. We'll be working to provide a mechanism to switch between pre-patch and post-patch loot for console players.

Cut content
  • This article or section refers to content that has been cut from the final release of the game.
  • It may include partially developed content, content existing within game files but not fully present or usable in game, and/or early and unreleased concepts.

Rise and Fall is a cut side quest in Pillars of Eternity.

Synopsis[ | ]

An ancient Engwithan tower in Heritage Hill has wreaked havoc on the district, transforming its residents into bloodthirsty monsters. I may be able to restore the district to normal, but I'll have to get help from someone who's familiar with the tower and the ancient processes that govern it.

Notes[ | ]

  • This quest was likely a precursor to the quest Undying Heritage, involving Teir Nowneth and its spell over the district. The journal entries share many similarities with the quest, and are in some cases copied verbatim.
    • One major difference is the mention of the Godhammer Bomb fragment, which is used to destroy the machines instead of simply overloading them as in Undying Heritage.
    • Another requires the Watcher to escape from an explosion if the machines are destroyed.

ID Objectives
0 Rise and Fall
10000 An ancient Engwithan tower in Heritage Hill has wreaked havoc on the district, transforming its residents into bloodthirsty monsters. I may be able to restore the district to normal, but I'll have to get help from someone who's familiar with the tower and the ancient processes that govern it.
1 Search Heritage Hill for Icantha.
10001 Icantha seems to have known about both the tower and the Engwithan language. Perhaps I can convince her to tell me how to disrupt the tower's magic.
2 Return to Teir Nowneth with the command words.
10002 Now that I understand the Engwithan language and the ancient words that command Teir Nowneth, I can return and see about ending the curse.
3 Find a sacrifice for Aldhelm.
10003 The animancer has degenerated further. If I want him to retain his abilities long enough to help me with Teir Nowneth, I'll have to sacrifice a victim to his unnatural hunger.
4 End Teir Nowneth's curse.
10004 Aldhelm Graeg is dead. I'll have to find a way to end the curse without his help.
5 Lure Saeda out of the Valtas Manor.
10005 I met a young girl named Saeda Valtas. If I could find a way to get her out of her family's house, I could probably feed her to Aldhelm.
6 Obtain a Fragment of the Godhammer bomb.
10006 Icantha explained that an artifact containing massive amounts of essence could destroy the tower, preventing someone from triggering the curse in the future.

She told me that the Temple of Magran in Defiance Bay has a fragment of the Godhammer bomb, the weapon that ended the Saint's War.

7 Put the Fragment of Magran's Eternal Stone into Teir Nowneth's Soul Machine
10007 The tower itself is a giant machine built to re-animate ancient Engwithans into eternal warriors. I can disrupt this power's hold on Heritage Hill by placing a fragment of Magran's Eternal Stone at the altar atop Teir Nowneth.
8 Take Saeda to Aldhelm inside Teir Nowneth.
10008 Saeda's with me now. If I sacrifice her to Aldhelm, he should be able to help me control Teir Nowneth.
9 Operate the ancient machine atop Teir Nowneth.
10009 Aldhelm has recovered enough to help me control the tower's machinery.
11 Unravel the mystery of Heritage Hill's curse.
10011 It seems an explanation for the curse - and how to stop it - may lie with an animancer named Icantha. She's somewhere in Heritage Hill.
12 Escape from Teir Nowneth's Explosion
10012 The fragment of Magran's Eternal Stone reacted with the immense soul energy accumulated at the top of Teir Nowneth - an explosion is imminent. I must get to safety before the blast destroys everything around me.

30000 I used the machines atop Teir Nowneth to dispel the magic binding the souls to the district. Heritage Hill is now freed from the curse of the undead.
- -
30001 I used the fragment of the Godhammer bomb to destroy Teir Nowneth. The curse of Heritage Hill is now lifted, and I've ensured that no one else can abuse the tower's magic ever again.
