Pillars of Eternity Wiki

In response to patch v1.3.7.0.1377 to Pillars of Eternity (June 6, 2024), the random loot tables shown on the wiki have been updated. These changes may take time to propegate.

As a result, random loot data is no longer accurate to old versions of the game, including all console ports. We'll be working to provide a mechanism to switch between pre-patch and post-patch loot for console players.

Stamina in Avowed is a resource that governs your character's physical endurance during combat. It is the counterpart to Essence — which applies to your magical abilities, while Stamina applies to your physical actions.

It depletes with various physically-demanding actions, including:

  • Weapon use: Each swing of a melee weapon, like a sword, consumes stamina. Heavier weapons typically consume more stamina per swing. Power attacks require considerably more stamina than regular attacks.
  • Bow use: Drawing and holding a bow at tension drains stamina.
  • Sprinting: Running at speed uses up your stamina.

Stamina is recovered gradually over time, and can be quickly restored using Stamina Potions. If your Stamina depletes entirely, you may be unable to perform certain actions or your attacks may become weaker.

Some skills can improve Stamina regeneration rate, while others might lower Stamina costs with certain actions.

Your maximum Stamina pool is primarily determined by your Resolve, with each point in Resolve granting +5 maximum Stamina. Additionally, the class of armor you currently have equipped restricts your maximum Stamina, with heavier armors restricting it even more. Heavier armor provides greater protection and damage reduction, but comes at the cost of reduced physical endurance and agility.
