Stamina in Avowed is a resource that governs your character's physical endurance, both in and out of combat. It is the counterpart to Essence — which applies to your magical abilities, while Stamina applies to your physical actions.
Overview[]
It depletes with various physically-demanding actions, including:
- Weapon use: Each swing of a melee weapon, or shot of a ranged weapon (including firearms and magical weapons) consumes Stamina. Heavier weapons typically consume more stamina than lighter ones. Power Attacks require double the Stamina of regular attacks.
- Bow use: Drawing and holding a bow at tension drains stamina.
- Blocking: Successfully blocking an attack takes stamina.
- Dodging: Performing a dodge consumes stamina.
Actions that DO NOT deplete Stamina include:
- Sprinting, running at speed.
- Non-combat parkour moves, like jumping, climbing, vaulting, mantling.
Stamina is recovered over time, but only while it's not actively being used. When the player uses an action that consumes (or has the potential to consume) stamina, regeneration stops, and only resumes after about half a second of inactivity. This includes holding a block, and charging a power attack. Some skills can improve Stamina regeneration rate, reduce the regeneration delay, while others might lower Stamina costs with certain actions.
If your Stamina depletes entirely, you temporarily suffer from Exhaustion. While Exhausted, your movement speed is slowed, you are unable to perform additional Stamina-consuming actions, and a vignette appears around your vision. This status typically only lasts half a second or so.
Your Maximum Stamina is primarily determined by your Resolve, with each point in Resolve granting +5 Maximum Stamina. Additionally, the class of armor you currently have equipped restricts your maximum Stamina, with heavier armors restricting it even more. Heavier armor provides greater protection and damage reduction, but comes at the cost of reduced physical endurance and agility.
Stamina is shown as a white bar in the lower center area of the HUD. When your stamina is full, the bar is hidden.
