Thorel is a character in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

Background[ | ]

The rotund and cheerful Thorel is the owner of The Kraken's Eye, the biggest - and only - tavern in the whole of Port Maje. The recent storm is resulting in lots of profit form him, but also denies rooms to anyone beyond those already booked. He's also a font of information on what's going on in the town, especially when it relates to the patrons of his establishment.

He named the tavern after his greatest triumph during his seafaring years: Defeating a kraken that has already destroyed seven ships and ate their crews. As the helmsman of the ship that took the beast down, he was awarded its eye by his captain - it's his greatest treasure.

This character has other interactions.
  • He gives you an Ale out of sympathy for your troubles at Vilario's Rest.
  • When asked how he can tell you came from the shipwreck, a coastal aumaua or godlike Watcher will receive a unique response.
  • Stealing the Kraken's Eye eye in plain view will cause Thorel to demand you return it. You can say you were just looking and return it, or pocket the eye, which will cause him to become hostile. These options are skipped entirely if you killed Galain without starting the quest The Better Man.
  • If you stole the Kraken's Eye from the wall, he mentions this when asked about the tavern's namesake, and also as his introductory dialogue after completing The Better Man.

Rooms[ | ]

Only one of the following rooms will be available, depending on the outcome of The Better Man.

Quests[ | ]

  • Burning Bridges: He provides a good deal of intel on what happened that fateful night.
  • The Better Man: Thorel wants you to get rid of a patron who has overstayed his welcome.
