Tuatanu is a smith in Pillars of Eternity. He works and resides in the Black Hammer Smithery in Gilded Vale.
Background[ | ]
This aumaua man is of an impressive build, towering above the countertop. His skin is the dusky blue of the deeper oceans, and his thick arms boast corded muscle. Small ears frame a square-jawed face coated in smeared soot and arcing black tattoos alike.
He is the Vale's premiere smith who trades with New Heomar on a regular basis. It's a neat little trade circle he set up: After unloading his stock, the caravan comes back through Loghome to buy iron, then return through the Black Meadow and a short stretch of wilderness.
Lord Raedric is his primary client, purchasing the bulk of the weapons manufactured at the smithy. His patronage allowed Tuatanu to greatly expand his operations and it would thrive, if his caravan didn't get waylaid by bandits recently.

Quests[ | ]
- The Smith's Shipment: Tuatanu initiates the quest.
Store[ | ]
His store, which is labeled "Black Hammer Smithy", sells weapons, armor, and tools.
Notably it is one of a handful of stores in Pillars of Eternity that actually restocks certain items by chance. However, this is only limited to the Fine Sword, which has a 50% chance to appear when the store is restocked. Additionally it is one of the only stores where some of the fixed items are also found in the regeneration list. In this case, newly-stocked items will always replace items that already exist in the store (the store will never have two War Bows, for example).
After returning the shipment of iron to Tuatanu during The Smith's Shipment, a larger selection of wares becomes available, and his store starts restocking items. After all, Tuatanu can't forge new weapons without iron!
