In Project Eternity's combat, players need to be concerned with two elements of a character's vitality: Stamina and Health. Damage hits Stamina first and is then converted into health damage. Normally 1/4 of the Stamina damage is converted into Health Damage,[1].e.g., if a character takes 12 points of Stamina damage he would take 3 points of Health damage. Some characters (e.g. barbarians) have a different formula for converting Stamina damage into Health damage.[2]

Stamina

Stamina represents how much damage a character can take before falling unconscious. Characters lose it quickly and regain it relatively rapidly. Abilities and spells are able to help replenish or regenerate Stamina. If a character hits 0 Stamina, he or she is knocked out. Spells and abillities can bring an unconscious character back into a fight and all unconscious character will awaken after combat.[3] Only fighters continuously regenerate Stamina during combat, but after combat, Stamina regenerates for everyone very rapidly.[4]

Health

Health represents how much damage a character can take before he dies. Health is typically lost at a 1:4 ratio from Stamina. When the PC or a companion hits 0 Health, he or she is maimed (in standard play) or killed (in Expert mode or as an option in standard play).[3] Health can only be healed by resting.[1]
